Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) to Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) Program

The BSBA-to-MSBA program is designed for well-prepared students who wish to obtain a master’s degree in Business Analytics by adding a fifth year of intensive study. The program is offered by the Questrom School of Business and provides a streamlined path for Questrom undergraduates to continue directly into the MSBA program, reducing both time and costs.

Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Programs are linked bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in which the two degrees are conferred sequentially. This Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Program allows students to apply a maximum of 6 units from their undergraduate degree toward the associated master’s degree. The units applied toward the master’s degree must be at the 500 level or above.

Learning Outcomes

Students in the Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Program will achieve the learning outcomes of both the BSBA program and the MSBA program.

Requirements

Students in this program must fulfill all of the requirements of the BSBA program and all requirements of the MSBA degree with the following adjustments permitted:

Required Core Courses

Students in this Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Program may apply up to 8 units taken during the BSBA program towards 6 units of MSBA courses. The following courses, if taken during the BSBA program, may be applied into the MSBA program:

  • QST IS 565 Business Analytics Toolbox (4 units) for QST BA 775 Managing Data Resources (3 units)
  • QST BA 576 Machine Learning for Business Analytics (4 units) for QST BA 810 Supervised Machine Learning (3 units)
  • QST BA 572 Business Experiments and Causal Methods (4 units) for QST BA 830 Business Experimentation and Causal Methods (3 units)

If a student has taken all three BSBA courses, an elective may be substituted for the third required course. Given the variation in courses BSBA students take, application of BSBA courses towards the MSBA will be made in consultation with the students’ academic advisor.

Communications & Teaming Requirement

Due to content overlap, students who complete QST SM 275 Management Communications and QST MO 221 The Dynamics of Leading Organizations cannot take the required MSBA equivalents of QST ES 729 Management Communication and QST ES 710 Teaming. Instead, students take an MSBA elective (3 units) of their choosing.

MSBA Electives

Some of the electives in the MSBA program have significant overlap with electives taken in the BSBA program. In those cases, students may replace the equivalent MSBA elective with an elective of their choosing if they had already taken it during their undergraduate program.

Current elective equivalents are as follows:

  • QST MK 542 Digital Marketing Analytics (4 units) for QST BA 860 Digital Marketing Analytics (3 units)
  • QST MO 520 People Analytics (4 units) for QST BA 880 People Analytics (3 units)

Elective equivalents are subject to change based on course content and schedules. Students should check with their advisor for the most up-to-date equivalent.

Admission Requirements

Students must apply to Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Programs before the conferral of the bachelor’s degree. Typically, students apply to this Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Program in their junior year. Students in the BSBA-to-MSBA program must complete at least 29.5 units while enrolled as a graduate student. Students should consult with the Financial Assistance office to learn how entrance into the Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Program might impact their financial aid.

Concentrations

Students in the Bachelor’s-to-Master’s Program are eligible to complete an MSBA concentration.
