You will examine wine’s role in early civilizations, its symbolic and religious meanings, shifting views on its health effects, and its economic power through trade, taxation, and commerce. You will also consider the impact of politics, science, globalization, and questions of diversity and exclusion within the wine industry, gaining a comprehensive understanding of how culture, religion, politics, and economics have shaped the production, distribution, and experience of wine across history.
