Boston Library Consortium Borrowing

Through the Boston Library Consortium (BLC) you can borrow books from member libraries several different ways.

Terrier Card Borrowing

Boston University matriculating students, faculty, and staff may use your BU ID (Terrier Card) to borrow books from the following libraries just as you would from Boston University Libraries:

  • Boston College,
  • Brandeis University, and
  • Northeastern University Libraries

These books will now show up in your Library Account.

BLC Cards

A BLC Card allows the bearer to borrow – in person – circulating material from a BLC member library, just as you would from a BU library.

Boston University faculty, staff, and matriculating students on the Charles River Campus, in good standing (owing under $10.00 to Boston University libraries), may obtain a Consortium Card by filling out an application form (see below).  Medical Campus affiliates apply at the Alumni Medical Library.

Your Consortium Card will be available for pickup at the Library Services Desk at Mugar Memorial Library three business days after the application form is submitted. You will receive an email notification when the card is ready for you. Please bring a picture ID with you. Cards must be re-validated (at the Circulation desk) each semester of the academic year.

Visiting Boston Library Consortium member libraries

You may visit Boston Library Consortium member libraries with your Boston University ID (Terrier Card) to consult materials on-site.

  • Terms and Conditions

    • Only Boston University faculty, staff, and graduate students in good standing (owing under $10.00 to Boston University libraries) may obtain a Consortium Card.
    • You will need to register at any Boston Library Consortium (BLC) Library from which you wish to borrow materials. The lending library may set a shorter expiration date than the one appearing on your card.

    • Further information regarding Consortium cards may be found at the BLC's website: https://blc.org/.
  • Note: patrons apply once per academic year, but must renew each semester by bringing their card to the Library Services Desk at Mugar Memorial Library.
