Fiscal Leadership and the Modern City - Day 2

  • Starts: 8:30 am on Tuesday, April 28, 2015
  • Ends: 4:30 pm on Tuesday, April 28, 2015
Mayors and city leaders throughout the world are confronted with obstacles big and small every single day. Perhaps the most critical aspect of a successful city, and often the most overlooked, is its fiscal health. When asked about urban leadership, our Co-Founder and the former Mayor of Boston, Thomas Menino, was fond of saying, "when your finances work, your city works." During our 2014 edition of the Menino Survey of Mayors, we spoke to over 70 city leaders across the nation. The issue they wanted to learn about most was the sound fiscal management of their cities. How can new, innovative sources of revenue be identified? How can mayors cut costs without hamstringing services and alienating unions? As federal and state funding continues to disappear, what is the future of municipal spending power?
