Children’s Theatre (CT)
Come to the Children’s Theatre Dress Rehearsal! https://www.facebook.com/events/117187895137441/
Children’s Theatre began in 1991 and was the CSC’s first creative arts program. Volunteers brainstorm, write and produce their own original variety shows and skits in a troupe of 10 students through most of the semester.
After the shows are prepared and rehearsed, volunteers perform their creations for children in various hospitals, community centers, after school programs and domestic abuse shelters throughout Boston. CT brings volunteers into the heart of Boston communities to inspire and entertain a diverse audience of children who don’t generally have access to arts education.
Time commitment is about two hours each Thursday night (8:30pm-10pm) for most of the semester for a program-wide meeting and troupe rehearsal. Towards the end of the semester, meetings are replaced by site visits where volunteers perform their skit and conduct informal theatre workshops that include improv games and cheers.
CT requires no previous theatre experience, and most volunteers don’t have any.
Some of Children’s Theatre’s performance sites include Shriner’s Burn Hospital, The Home for Little Wanderers and The Elizabeth Stone House.
All CSC programs, with the exception of Alternative Spring Breaks, travel to site in one of three ways: by public transportation, by foot, or by one of the CSC’s 15-passenger vans. Students interested in driving the vans are trained and certified at the beginning of each semester.
