Making Music

Making Music brings performing-arts education to our young people in the Boston Public Schools!

Volunteers offer one-hour instrumental, vocal, or dance lessons to elementary-aged students once a week. The program culminates in an end-of-the-year recital on BU’s campus where students can showcase their new talents.

In our increasingly distracting and stressful world, it’s important to introduce outlets (like the performing arts) where children can express themselves freely and take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This is precisely what Making Music hopes to accomplish, and we’d love for you to take part!

In the past, Making Music has worked with Josiah Quincy Elementary School, Thomas A. Edison Elementary School, Winship Elementary School, JP Manning Elementary School, and the after-school YMCA program at Winthrop Elementary School.

Time Commitment: Only 2-3 hours per week!

Transportation: Some sites are accessible via the MBTA public transportation system, and others are accessed using one of the Community Service Center vans.

Applications for Making Music are currently closed, but consider volunteering with Children’s Theatre or Student Studio!
