Learning Assistant Program

Learning Assistant Program

The Undergraduate Neuroscience Program utilizes Learning Assistants in many of the classes. The Learning Assistant (LA) Program here at Boston University helps improve undergraduate education by training students in teaching methods and practices. LAs help their fellow undergraduates by providing them with knowledgeable and experienced peer educators, and LAs enhance their own learning abilities through their understanding of pedagogy.

Neuroscience Classes using Learning Assistants are:

  • NE 101 Introduction to Neuroscience
  • NE 102 Introduction to Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience
  • NE 116 Integrated Science Experience I
  • NE 203 Principles of Neuroscience with Lab
  • NE 204 Introduction to Computational Models of Brain and Behavior
  • NE 212 Introduction to MATLAB Programming for Research in Psychological & Brain Sciences
  • NE 218 Integrated Science Experience II

Our program recruits new learning assistants in November and April for the upcoming semester! The application will be available on the Learning Assistant Alliance!

Neuroscience Writing Consultants

In this initiative, upper-level majors in Neuroscience serve as discipline-specific writing consultants to provide writing support for students in Neuroscience courses. To sign up for an appointment, do so here.

Meet your Neuroscience Writing Consultants for 2025-2026!

Ada, Sophia, and Amithi are here to assist you with all of your scientific writing needs in your neuroscience classes, especially in writing intensive courses, like NE 102 and NE 203! Whether it’s how to write a specific aims section, how to format your figures, or how to organize your thoughts they are here to help.

Their consulting schedules are available here and you will be able to book in-person and/or online appointments with them.

She believes it is vital, as it serves not only as the primary way scientists communicate with each other but also as a bridge to the public. Outside of classes, Ada loves spending time with friends, reading, and watching sci-fi and horror movies.

Sophia Izidoro
Sophia is a junior from São Paulo, Brazil studying neuroscience and minoring in biology. She is interested in women’s health, especially neuropathology and psychiatry. In her free time, she enjoys reading and drawing. She loves food, long walks, and a good game night.

Amithi Tadigadapa
Amithi is a junior majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Public Health. She currently works as a research assistant in a learning and memory lab where she studies neuron and glia connectivity. She is also the editor for the public health journal and organization, United Against Inequities in Disease. In her free time, she enjoys crafting, playing the cello, and studying art history.
