Learning Assistant Program at Boston University

An introduction to the Learning Assistant Program

Welcome to the Learning Assistant Program at BU! Learning Assistants (LAs) are undergraduate students who, through the guidance of weekly preparation sessions with faculty and a pedagogy course, facilitate discussions among groups of students in a variety of classroom settings that encourage active engagement. The goal of the LA Program is to transform courses so that they are more closely aligned with research-based instructional strategies. In addition, LAs enhance their own learning abilities through their understanding of pedagogy.

The Boston University Learning Assistant Program is based on the Learning Assistant Model, which began at the University of Colorado at Boulder with funding from NSF. More information is provided on the the Learning Assistant Alliance website.

Join us on Dec 11, 2024 at the Experiential Learning Expo where the new Learning Assistants this semester will present their final projects redesigning a small aspect of the course in which they teach, combining the pedagogical theory they learned throughout the semester with their in-class, experiential practice of teaching.
