The Pumpkin Drop
Look! Up in the sky! It’s orange! It’s round! It’s—a pumpkin! The physics department’s popular Pumpkin Drop was October 25. At the much-anticipated annual event, physics students pitch pumpkins filled with substances from pudding to paint from the Metcalf Science Center roof onto the plaza 70 feet below. Besides being an educational lesson in parabolic trajectory and gravitation, making such a mess is lots of fun.
