In August 2019, IS&T announced the availability of Zoom to all Boston University students, faculty and staff. Zoom is one of the leading online meeting providers and was already in use by some groups at the University.

Not sure what Zoom is? Zoom brings online meetings and scheduling to your Mac, PC, and mobile devices. You can quickly and easily meet with up to 300 participants over video and audio from anywhere, even if they don’t have an account. Using Zoom’s sharing functions, you can share and annotate screens or presentations. Zoom even allows you to share your screen directly from your Android and iOS phones or tablets.

By providing Zoom to the entire community, BU not only realized cost savings but also increased service availability, capacity, and ease of use by enabling single sign-on using your BU username and password.

The response to the Zoom launch has been very positive. From Aug. 1, 2019 through October 31, 2019 there have been 11,674 Zoom meetings held with 71,142 total participants. As of October 31st, over 5,100 members of the BU Community have Zoom accounts and that number grows daily.

Want to give Zoom a try? Just go to https://bostonu.zoom.us in your browser and sign in using your BU login name and password. Already have the Zoom client on your desktop? Use the “Sign In with SSO” option to get started.
