Welcome to the Inaugural Edition of the BW Newsletter!
We hope that you find the Newsletter a valuable resource. If you have any thoughts regarding the Newsletter – topics for a future issue, ways to improve it, etc. – please let us know.
Performance Improvements
The development team has been hard at work to improve the response time for several Funds Management reports (located in both Central and Distributed folders). By now, you have hopefully noticed the improvements, since the modifications were implemented early in February. Here are the reports that were affected:
- Unrestricted Budget to Actual by Funds Center (FC)
- Unrestricted Budget to Actual by FC – GL/CI Detail
- Designated/Restricted Balance & Activity
- Designated/Restricted Balance & Activity – GL/CI Detail
- Transaction Detail w/ Payroll Detail (Authorized Users)
- Transaction Detail
- Budget to Actual – year to date – all FP types
New Reports
Employee Absence Tracking Report
This report enables you to view all time quotas – vacation, sick time, personal days, etc. – for a single month or a date range, for one or more employees in an Organizational Unit (depending, of course, on your security permissions). Access to the report is limited to Payroll Coordinators, Managers and Time Keepers.
The report has been added to the Reporting / Human Capital Management / Time Management folder. This document describes how to run the report and to understand the information returned: BW How to run – HCM Employee Absence Tracking report – historical view.
Some of these Tips may be new to you, while others may be familiar. Regardless, we hope you find value in these and future Tips, even if we do no more than remind you of the existence of tools you once knew about but had since forgotten.
Limit Order Summary
Note: this Tip has been replaced by a the Limit Order Status report, which was designed specifically to show limit order setup amount, percentage and amount invoiced to date, etc. Refer to the online document SRM Reporting User’s Guide for a description of the report.
Filter Key Figures Based on Threshold Values
Have you ever wanted to remove all of the $0 commitment amounts in your list of open commitments? Or have you needed to find all purchases that fall within a particular range of dollar amounts? If so, this document describes how to do exactly that: BW How to – Filter Key Figures using the Condition Function
Introductory Classes
Targeted toward employees who are new to Business Warehouse reporting – or who would like a refresher – introductory-level classes addressing the following topics are offered on a monthly basis:
- Funds Management Reporting
- Grants Management Reporting
- Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) Reporting
- Payroll Reporting
Course descriptions and schedules of upcoming sessions are available here.
Intermediate/Advanced Classes
These sessions are not so much formal, agenda-driven classes as they are collaborative working sessions that are guided by attendees’ questions. To date, most intermediate classes have focused on the Funds Management and Grants Management reporting areas, although there is potential for running similar sessions for the SRM or payroll areas.
Attendees’ comments indicate that these sessions are very well-received and have proven to be a productive use of participants’ time. Solutions to questions/issues presented are collaboratively developed by attendees and the instructor. The sessions are a great opportunity to focus on specific questions and to meet and share ideas with colleagues from other business areas within the University.
