PLEASE NOTE: Advanced Segments will report traffic on the visitors to your site in addition to other BU sites visited during the same browsing session. To get reports on only the traffic to a single BU website, we recommend using a Custom Report.

In order to perform the steps below, you will need to have Google Analytics installed on your site and have access to the statistics using a Google Account.

If you have a WordPress site, the Analytics code is already installed and we can grant access to any Google Account. If you don’t already have an account, or would like to use a BU Google Apps account, create one now.

Please contact us for installation or access to Analytics.

Once you have access, you can view statistics for Boston University by following these steps:

  1. Log in to Google Analytics at http://www.google.com/analytics/.
  2. Under the main Boston University heading, expand http://www.bu.edu, and then select Boston University.

This will show you the statistics for all of BU.

Next, we’ll set up a “segment” that will let you view just your website.

  1. Towards the top of the page, under Visitors Overview, click Advanced Segments.
  2. In the bottom right of the new section that expands, click on + New Custom Segment.
  3. Change the condition drop-down menu (defaulted to green with a value of “Ad Content”) to Page.
  4. In the text field all the way to the right, enter the end of the URL for your site (/sitename/). For example, an Advanced Segment for TechWeb would use /techweb/
    ga
  5. Enter a Name for your segment.
  6. Click Save Segment.

Now that you’ve created your segment, you can quickly view it by following these steps:

  1. Log in to Google Analytics at http://www.google.com/analytics/.
  2. Under the main Boston University heading, expand http://www.bu.edu, and then select Boston University.
  3. Towards the top of the page, under Visitors Overview, click Advanced Segments.
