Browser support for custom WordPress themes built by Interactive Design

Boston University Interactive Design strives to provide an excellent user experience for website visitors while following industry standards and best practices. We support all browsers as defined in the WordPress Theme Development Handbook

This list is regularly updated to reflect the current browser trends of the global market, and reflects the trends we see among Boston University website visitors as well.

Unless explicitly stated otherwise, your website will be tested and maintained against these standards.

Definition of support

Support is defined as ensuring the website, and all custom functionality, works correctly and whose design is reasonably usable as defined in the original scope of work.

Graceful degradation

Because of the ever-changing evolution of web browsers, there will be times when one browser does not yet support a certain technology that is present in other browsers. Support is defined as a consistent - but not identical - experience for users. In the case of superficial differences between browsers which do not interfere with the ability to use or access information in your website, such as animations or shadows, we will make a reasonable effort to provide a suitable experience which works with that browser. This is called graceful degradation, and may include strategies such as providing an alternate style in that browser, or removing the design effect altogether.

Exceptions

We recognize that there may be times when this model does not fit your website’s needs. Contact your Creative Services account executive for more information on adding specialized browser support to your project.

Working with any underlying technology outside of our control, including vendor products, social media services, and custom development work with APIs has additional risks and limitations that you should be aware of as you plan your project. In the event of a significant change to the underlying technology in your website which is out of Interactive Design’s control, your functionality may need to change, gracefully degrade, or be removed altogether. Interactive Design does not monitor for these changes, and each situation is unique to the technology being used. If you notice something amiss, please contact your Creative Services account executive so we can coordinate next steps and determine a solution to move forward.
