Google Gemini

Google Gemini is an AI-powered chatbot designed to improve productivity and enhance the way you interact with your Google data. It is available to all staff, faculty, and students at no additional cost under BU’s Google Workspace license.

Google Gemini access also comes bundled with basic access to Google’s NotebookLM.

Please note that licensing for advanced Google Gemini services (Gemini AI Pro and Gemini AI Ultra) are not available to BU members. Some advanced features for both Gemini and NotebookLM may not be available.

Google Veo is not included as part of our Google Gemini for Workspace license.

Benefits

The data you share while using this tool will not be saved or used for training the Large Language Model (LLM). When logged into Gemini click on your user icon in the top-right corner to confirm that you are signed in with your BU account.

Once you are logged into your BU Google account, data classified as Confidential or below may be shared with Google Gemini.

Key Features

  • Google Gemini:

    • A powerful new way of teaching, learning and working with generative AI. Save time, create captivating learning experiences, inspire fresh ideas, and learn confidently – all in a private and secure environment.
    • Gemini is built upon Google’s proprietary large language models. Its conversational interface style resembles that of ChatGPT. Google Gemini can also interface with your data in common Google Workspace apps such as Gmail, Drive, Docs, Calendar and more. Gemini for Workspace includes access to Google’s 2.5 Flash and limited access to 2.5 Pro models.
    • Take advantage of Gems: Gems are custom versions of Gemini that give you tailored responses. You can customize a premade Gem or you can create a new gem from scratch using instructions you set. Learn more about Gemini Gems.

  • NotebookLM:

    NotebookLM is an AI-powered research assistant designed to help you refine and organize your ideas. With NotebookLM, you can:

    • Easily upload PDFs, websites, YouTube videos, audio files, Google Docs, or Google Slides or discover new sources.
    • Experience Gemini’s advanced reasoning and interaction capabilities across different ways of communication like text, graphs, images, audio, and in many languages.
    • Chat with your notebook to get grounded information based on your sources with clear in-line citations for accuracy, transparency, and trust.
    • Transform your sources into approachable formats such as study guides, briefings, audio overviews, mind maps, and more.

What to Expect

  • Your interactions with Gemini stay within your organization. Gemini does not share your content outside your organization without your permission.
  • Your existing Google Workspace protections are automatically applied. Gemini brings the same enterprise-grade security as the rest of Google Workspace.
  • Your content is not used for any other customers. Your content is not human reviewed or used for Generative AI model training outside your domain without permission.
