Before setting up Google Search Console, be sure you have Google Analytics already added to your site. In addition to tracking different information, Google uses your access to Analytics to verify that you’re also allowed to access Search Console, so you must have one before the other.
To add a property to Search Console login with your bu.edu account, click “Add Property” (in the drop-down in the upper left) and fill in the URL to your website on the right under “URL prefix”.
With Google Analytics in place, Search Console will automatically verify your ownership of the site without any further action. If Google tells you to install an HTML file to verify ownership, ignore those instructions. Review your Google Analytics permissions and in particular ensure you have “Edit” access to your Analytics property, and then try adding the property to Search Console again.
