2022 Sustainable Campus Index
Earlier this month, Boston University was recognized as one of the best colleges and universities in the world in sustainable campus transportation. The Sustainable Campus Index highlights the most sustainable colleges and universities in 17 impact areas and overall by institution type, as measured by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS). In the transportation impact area, Boston University is 5th in the United States and 10th in the world! At BU, over 97% of our students and almost two-thirds of our employees walk, bike, or take public transit as their primary mode of transportation.
Additionally, one of BU’s incredible sustainability programs was highlighted in the report. The 51% Project is a data-driven communications initiative that identifies established peer-reviewed principles of climate change communication and makes them accessible to the general public. The project, founded and led by Sarah Finnie Robinson, a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Global Sustainability at BU, is providing critical tools to people on how best to talk about the climate crisis and how people can get involved in curbing the impacts of climate change. We are so lucky to have the 51% Project as part of the BU family.
