Dental Care Options for Boston University Students

All registered students are eligible to apply for the Dental plans described below

Aetna Dental Insurance (Aetna Dental PPO)

Students can purchase dental insurance for themselves and dependents through Aetna Student Health. This plan is not administered by BU and must be purchased directly through Aetna Student Health at aetnastudenthealth.com/bu.

The Aetna Dental PPO plan covers dental services for both in-network and out-of-network providers. The cost for the 2025-2026 plan year is $478 and coverage lasts from 8/15 to 8/14. For students starting in the fall semester, the deadline to enroll is 9/20. For students starting in the spring semester, the deadline to enroll is 1/31. Please note that for students starting in the spring, coverage lasts from 1/1 to 8/14 at the same cost, $478.  NOTE: Fall students who missed Sept 20th deadline may also enroll in the Spring plan.

Students who missed the open enrollment deadline for the Aetna Dental PPO, or have difficulty budgeting for the dental insurance premium, may consider a dental discount plan, instead of dental insurance.

Option 1

Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Student Discount Program

(no cost to join, discount offered on services provided at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine)

Option 2:

Aetna Student Health – Dental Discount Program – Vital Savings on Dental^SM*

This discount plan must be purchased directly through Aetna Student Health.  Aetna Student Health Dental Discount Program Vital Savings on Dental discount plan ($25 for student, or $44 for the student & spouse, or $63 for student & spouse + children).

The Aetna Student Health Vital Savings Dental Discount Plan has a coverage period of September 1 through August 31. Enrollment in the discount plan remains open through April (for the same cost) for whatever is left of the Vital Savings policy year (Sept. 1 – Aug. 31).  Click on the link above to locate the enroll button.
