Matthew Dineen is a writer and activist from Massachusetts. He recently returned to his home state after 12 years in Philadelphia where he volunteered at Wooden Shoe Books and Records and served as events coordinator for over a decade. In 2015, Dineen founded The Music & Work Project to explore the role of music in our working lives. He traveled across the United States with his zine Not for You: Stories of Music & Work from the Precarious Service Industry and facilitated discussions at various community centers, bookstores, and universities.After the zine tour, Dineen began working as a document specialist in records retention for an equipment leasing company in Philadelphia where he remained through 2021 before joining Boston University.Dineen received his BA in Sociology from Bard College and an MA in Individualized Studies from Goddard College where he studied the challenges and potentials of worker-owned collectives and the dilemma of artists and activists in capitalist society.
