Sadie Cowan (CAS ’23, BU SPH ’24) awarded Fulbright research grant

Sadie Cowan (CAS ’23, BU SPH ’24) who graduated with honors with BA in Sociology was recently awarded a Fulbright research grant for the 2024-2025 cycle. Sadie will be working and living in New Delhi, India, where she will be conducting social epidemiology research about Tuberculosis (TB) and undernutrition. India is home to approximately a quarter of the global TB population, leading the world in TB incidence. This epidemic is driven primarily through undernutrition, which accounts for at least 1 in 3 TB cases in the country. By studying the relationship between infectious disease and social determinants, Sadie will investigate why India’s main TB response program, Ni-Kshay Mitra, is underutilized (with only 18% of TB patients involved), as well as understand how India can leverage and improve existing welfare policy in order to eradicate TB in line with looming national and global timelines.
