BU Sargent Students Cycle Across Country, Start Motivational Fitness Campaign
Boston University students Nick Wendel and Carolyn Harper, seniors in the Combined Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training/Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Sargent College, will bike across the country this summer to promote the health benefits of physical activity. The 2,700 mile trip will take them from San Diego, CA to Charleston, SC.
Wendel and Harper hope that for every mile they ride, people following their journey will pledge one minute of physical activity. “The pledge can be something as simple as walking 4 days a week or as complex as training for a triathlon,” explains Wendel, “It’s about keeping track of your minutes and working towards a goal.”
The cross country bike trip will be a call to action, promoting the benefits of physical activity, such as disease prevention, weight management, and general happiness. The bikers have already collected more than 80 pledges from friends and family and plan to continue motivating others to be active.
To get involved, you can pledge your minutes on their website where they offer a daily physical activity tracker.
The bikers have also started a fundraising campaign to collect donations towards the cost of food, shelter, and necessary bike gear. Donations for the trip will be accepted until July 15.
