11/26/07: Jim Yong Kim, M.D., Ph.D, Co-Founder of Partners In Health to Deliver Annual Dudley Allen Sargent Lecture at BU Sargent College
(Boston) – Dr. Jim Yong Kim., renowned humanitarian, doctor, and professor will discuss “The Future of Global Health” at the ninth annual Dudley Allen Sargent Lecture at Boston University (BU) Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences on December 4.
Dr. Kim holds appointments as Professor of Health and Human Rights at the Harvard School of Public Health and Professor of Medicine and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is chief of the Division of Social Medicine and Health Inequalities at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and director of the Francois Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights.
Prior to these appointments, Dr. Kim was director of the HIV/AIDS department of the World Health Organization (WHO) since March 2004. Dr. Kim was appointed to that position within WHO after serving as advisor to the WHO director-general.
Dr. Kim has 20 years of experience improving health in developing countries as a founding trustee and former executive director of Partners in Health, a not-for-profit organization that supports a range of health programs in Haiti, Peru, Russia, Rwanda, Lesotho and the United States. He was awarded the MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship in 2003, was named one of America’s 25 best leaders by U.S. News & World Report in 2005 and one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2006.
Dr. Kim is the fifteenth speaker to deliver the annual Dudley Allen Sargent Distinguished Lecture. In 2006 the lecture involved a symposium of 6 speakers. The Dudley Allen Sargent lecture series began in 1999 to celebrate the incorporation of Sargent College into Boston University in 1929.
This event is free and open to the public. The ninth Annual Dudley Allen Sargent Lecture will take place on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. at BU Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, 635 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA in Room 101. All attendees are invited to a reception following the lecture in the 2nd floor lounge.
