Italian Director Michele Riondino Visits BU

Photo of Michele RiordinoTwo weeks ago, Italian actor/director, Michele Riondino, visited BU campus for two special events with the Department of Romance Studies and the Italian Film Festival USA!

On April 8, Jim Carter, Lecturer in Italian, welcomed Riondino to his LI 283/CI 266 Italian Film course for a discussion on the Disney+ series, The Lions of Siciliy (2023). The students had just recently finished watching the series, in which Riondino plays the nineteenth-century entrepreneur, Vincenzo Florio. Students prepared questions for Riondino and carried on a conversation with him about Italian cinema and television.

Following this class visit, Riondino returned to BU on April 10 to discuss his directorial debut, Palazzina LAF (2023), about the politics of labor at the ILVA steel factory in southern Italy. The US premiere was presented by the Italian Film Festival USA in Boston, a collaboration between Boston University, Boston College, and Salem State University, and chaired by Jim Carter. About 150 people were in attendance, and the event featured an introduction by Carter and Q&A session between Riondino and the audience.
