Jim Carter is Senior Lecturer of Italian and Associate Director of Cinema & Media Studies. His research and teaching interests are Italian cinema and 19-21C Italian literature, especially the relationship between political economy and cultural production. His books include Italian Industrial Literature and Film: Perspectives on the Representation of Postwar Labor (edited with Carlo Baghetti and Lorenzo Marmo, Peter Lang, 2021), Ecologia e lavoro: dialoghi interdisciplinari (edited with the Obert collective, Mimesis, 2023) and Olivetti and the Cultural Politics of Italian Industry, 1930s-1950s (Intellect, forthcoming). In 2019, he was awarded the Rome Prize in Modern Italian Studies.

At Boston University, prof. Carter teaches courses in the following areas:
