Cazenave Interviewed About Her Book

Jennifer Cazenave, Assistant Professor of French, has been interviewed by the New Books Network about her recent book, An Archive of the Catastrophe:  The Unused Footage of Claude Lanzmann’s Shoah.

Cazenave’s book studies the 2020 hours of film that was shot for, but not used in, Lanzmann’s magnum opus, Shoah. Cazenave explores the film’s conceptualization and production, reframing the final film in terms of all that it left out. She examines why some stories were included while others were not, raising issues of gender, representation, and witnessing.

The interview is available to listen to as a podcast.
