Boston University in Madrid has celebrated its 25th anniversary at the
International Institute in Madrid.  Founded by Prof. Alan Smith in 1983 with only seven  participants, the program now receives an average of 180 students per year, with “Liberal Arts” and “Internship” tracks and a new Film Studies and Documentary Video Production Program

Both Alan Smith and James Iffland (Director, 1987-89) spoke at the event, sponsored by International Programs and the Office of Development and Alumni Relations and organized  by Ray Green, current Resident Director in Madrid, and his staff. The official celebration, on October 11, included brief comments by former directors and students and addresses by BU’s Associate Provost for International Education Administration Urbain J. DeWinter and the Rector of  the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid Angel Galidondo. Among the guests were IP’s Director of Academic Affairs Elizabeth Goldsmith and Ph.D. graduates of the department Mercedes Fernández,  Cristina Pérez, and Amalia Pulgarín.
