Importing/Exporting Animals
Importing Animals
To begin the process of importing rodents from a collaborative institution or a non-approved animal vendor use the Animal Order function in AOps and provide the non-approved vendor information.
Once the request has been submitted in AOps, ASC staff will contact the sending institution to request health reports for the past year along with a report outlining any outbreaks for the past two years. The health status of the exporting institution will determine if animals qualify for quarantine or if rederivation is required. Additional testing may be required prior to securing importation approval. There is a one time cost associated with quarantine which will be charged on the monthly Special Services Invoice. Rederivation costs are billed directly by the Transgenic Core. Upon clearance from quarantine animals will be transferred to an established animal colony facility.
Exporting Animals
To begin the process of exporting animals use the Transfer/Export Animals function in AOps and provide the receiving facilities information. Once ASC receives the request the veterinary staff will send our health report to the receiving institution. The receiving institution will notify us if and/or when they will accept the export. Please be aware this can often take several weeks depending on where the animals are going.
When the receiving institution has accepted the export the ASC Business Office will begin the process to have the animals shipped. Blue export cards will have to be attached to your cages. Any changes to the request will result in a delay in the process.
The ASC Business Office will notify you by e-mail once the shipment date has been arranged. Shipments are generally made early in the week to insure the health and welfare of the animals. Please be aware that severe weather will affect shipping schedules.
