Scholarly Travel Funding

GPR Travel Grants

Each year the Division is given a very modest budget to reimburse its students for travel and expenses related to scholarly events.  If you are presenting a paper at a conference or have an upcoming job interview and would like to apply for reimbursement of some or all of your expenses please email or submit a hard copy of your application (see instructions below).  Please note that travel grant awards are not distributed until after receipts are submitted.

Format and Content of Application: The application should consist of: 1) a letter detailing the specifics of your request including where you will travel to, why you are going, and when your trip will occur; 2) an itemized estimate of the travel and/or lodging expenses you anticipate to incur; 3) an accounting of prior travel grants received (if any) from GPR.  Please address materials to the GPR Director of Graduate Studies, Prof. Jonathan Klawans and submit them to the Department Administrator wlczik@bu.edu, room 202, 145 Bay State Road.

Deadlines:
Fall: September 20, 2024
Spring:  March 1, 2025

Please note that funds are limited, and past travel grants have capped at about  $750. The bulk of our funding may be awarded in the Fall round, to support travel to the AAR conference in November. Applications to travel in the Spring will be considered on a rolling basis, until March 1, or until the funds are exhausted.

Graduate Student Organization (GSO) Travel Grants

The GSO offers graduate students the opportunity each semester to apply for a grant of up to $500 to fund travel during the subsequent semester.   Students are only eligible to apply if their department has met representation requirements at GSO meetings.  Contact the Department Administrator to determine if GPR students are currently eligible.
