Update on Strategic Planning Implementation Effort

I hope that this finds you well and rested from a much-needed break. As we enter the New Year, I write to provide an update on the University’s strategic planning implementation process and to invite your feedback on one aspect of the plan.
As you know, at the beginning of the fall semester we launched an implementation design effort, led by Professor Swathi Kiran and a set of Strategic Priority Sponsors. This group was tasked with developing a clear road map and specific action steps to turn the new Strategic Plan into reality. Professor Kiran and the Sponsors, along with a large number of Initiative Owners and other stakeholders, have made tremendous progress over the past semester. Their work so far has included:
- Developing concise descriptions and resource plans for each of the strategic initiatives associated with the plan;
- Adding new strategic initiatives to ensure that we are addressing the major events that have occurred over the past year, particularly in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion and digital engagement; and
- Drafting key performance indicators and success metrics for each of the five Strategic Priorities.
Over the course of the fall semester, we have been carefully considering how the plan’s original vision statement should evolve in conjunction with the dramatic changes that have taken place over the past year. As a result, we have made some adjustments to the vision statement to better reflect the future vision of Boston University.
Since community engagement continues to be a key component of the development of the Strategic Plan, we want to provide you an opportunity to review the updated vision statement and provide feedback. I invite each of you to visit the Strategic Plan website (Kerberos protected) to review and respond to the proposed vision statement. The comment period will be open through January 29, 2021.
We appreciate your continued engagement in this important effort. Thanks to the hard work of many faculty and staff over the past semester, we are seeing the Strategic Plan come to life in detailed and actionable plans that will shape the future of Boston University in exciting ways.
