Welcome Message from Provost Waters
From Dr. Gloria Waters, University Provost and Chief Academic Officer
September 3, 2024
Dear BU Colleagues,
As we start the academic year, I want to welcome returning and new members of the Boston University community to campus and convey my sincere hope that this will be a productive, exciting, and fulfilling year for each of you.
This is a pivotal moment for the University as Dr. Melissa Gilliam is inaugurated as BU’s 11th president. I am excited to be taking on my new role as University provost and to be working alongside her as the next chapter for BU unfolds. I have been fortunate to be a part of BU’s leadership during what has been a transformative time for the University. In my previous roles as a chair, dean, and vice president for research, I have come to appreciate the breadth, depth, and diverse nature of all that we do at BU.
BU has been on a continuous upward trajectory and has become a premier global research university. The quality of teaching, research, clinical work, and artistic productions of our faculty; the excellence and commitment of our staff; the vitality and energy of our students; and the scope of activities of the institution make BU one of the largest great urban educational centers in the country and the world. In my new role, I am looking forward to learning more about the scope of our endeavors, and to helping continue to make BU a supportive environment where our faculty, staff, and students will continue to thrive and excel.
To our new faculty and staff members joining BU this fall – welcome to your new community. To those of you who have worked throughout the summer or are returning – welcome back. To all of you – thank you for all you do to make BU the supportive, challenging, invigorating, and exciting place that it is.
Once again, I want to extend my best wishes to you for a productive, successful year, individually and collectively.
Regards,
Gloria Waters
University Provost and Chief Academic Officer
