Marcus Walton is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Boston University. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from Brown University. He has previously been a postdoctoral fellow at the Public Affairs Research Institute in Johannesburg, South Africa and a lecturer at University of the Witwatersrand.

His research is on democracy and protest in North and Sub-Saharan Africa, specifically looking at how legacies of colonial and post-colonial rule define contentious politics in the 21st century.
