Manager of Operations & Technical Programs

As Manager of Operations and Technical Programs, Joe Walker is responsible for facilitating the day-to-day activities at the Photonics center. This role encompasses the oversight of laboratory infrastructures, coordination of equipment and facility maintenance, space management, and optimization of workflows to support the researchers, faculty, and staff that work in the building. Whether it involves setting up a laboratory for the first time, concluding operations after extensive research, or addressing various needs throughout the lab’s lifecycle, Joe provides essential support to researchers and collaborates with departments across campus to accommodate the demands of complex and dynamic research initiatives.

In addition to his operational responsibilities, he is also instrumental in leading the implementation of various projects that further the center’s research and educational goals. This entails working closely with building occupants to identify necessary changes and upgrades aimed at continuously enhancing facilities and infrastructure. Furthermore, he engages with companies within the Business Innovation Center to ensure their activities are aligned with the mission of the Photonics Center.
