Björn Reinhard
The main research areas in the Reinhard Laboratory are Bioplasmonics, Nano-Bio Interface and Materials Science. We develop plasmonic nano-scale probes to probe, control, and reverse-engineer biological functionality. We are particularly interested in elucidating the fundamental principles that govern cell-nanoparticle interactions, spatial regulation of signaling, and biomimetic energy harvesting systems.
Darren Roblyer
The Roblyer research group develops new label free imaging modalities to diagnose disease and monitor therapies. A main thrust of the lab is development of new wearable and handheld technologies that can provide earlier assessments of therapy effectiveness for cancer, cardiovascular diseases, kidney disease, and others.
Kenneth Rothschild
The Molecular Biophysics Laboratory develops advanced biophysical methods in vibrational spectroscopy combined with advanced techniques in biomolecular engineering to understand the molecular mechanisms of membrane protein function. The group focuses primarily on rhodopsins, a large family of integral membrane proteins involved in animal vision and photo-sensing and ion transport in bacteria and algae. One important […]
Michael Ruane
Professor Ruane’s research interests inlcudes resonant cavity biosensors, optical design, and K-12 outreach and education
Michelle Sander
The Sander group explores optical material interactions to develop novel laser sources in the infrared and mid-infrared wavelength regime. Our research focuses on novel ultrafast devices and how ultrafast and photothermal light interactions can fuel new applications in biomedical imaging and material characterization. We study femtosecond pulse generation techniques (1 femtosecond = 10-15 seconds) to […]
Benjamin Scott
The Scott research group’s mission is to identify the mechanisms of cognition by developing and applying new neural technologies. This includes research on inference-based decision making, mental simulations, and adult neurogenesis.
Joshua Semeter
Professor Semeter and his research group center their work around ionospheric and space plasma physics, spectroscopy of atmospheric airglow and the aurora borealis, image processing, and radar systems and radar signal processing
Alexander Sergienko
Professor Sergienko’s research interests include ultrafast quantum optics, quantum metrology, and quantum biophotonics, among other topics.
Andre Sharon
Prof. Andre Sharon has accumulated over 20 years of experience, both academic and industrial, conducting research, developing, and deploying computer-controlled automation systems, devices and instruments for several industries, ranging from sub-micron, high-precision machinery for optoelectronics, biotech/biomedical, and semiconductor fabrication to high-speed assembly of consumer products. As Director of the Fraunhofer Center for Manufacturing Innovation and […]
Minjung Son
Research in the Son group aims to understand the photophysical mechanisms of how energy and charge flow in molecular, materials, and biological systems, which largely govern their function. To explore these mechanisms and dynamics, we utilize ultrafast optical spectroscopy and microscopy. In addition, we develop new classes of spatially controlled nanomaterials and hybrid photonic materials, […]
