Lunch and Learn

The Lunch and Learn event (student-organized with support from Boston University Photonics Center) has been carefully curated to provide a unique opportunity for professionals and enthusiasts in the optics and photonics field to expand their knowledge, engage in stimulating discussions, and connect with fellow visionaries in the field.

In the 2025 Spring semester, we organized two Lunch and Learn events:

Time: 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm
Location: PHO 901

Thursday, March 27, 2025 – Michael Pratt (Managing Director of Technology Development at BU)
Wednesday, April 23, 2025 – Enrique (Kiko) Galvez (Physics Professor at Colgate University)

Boston Photonics Day

Boston Photonics Day is an annual event for Greater Boston Area optics & photonics talents. This unique occasion brings together professionals, researchers, and students from the photonics community, creating a vibrant hybrid of social and networking opportunities. The event is designed to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the exploration of cutting-edge advancements in the field of photonics. It serves as a platform for attendees to engage in insightful discussions, build connections, and gain valuable industry insights. The whole day event is filled with alumni seminars, a panel discussion, an optics fair, and a poster session.

Distinguished Speaker Series

The distinguished speaker series is a venue for enlightening talks by notable scientists and researchers in the field of photonics, with the goal of connecting students in the Photonics Center community with experts in the field.

Research on Tap

Featuring lightning talks by current researchers in the BU Photonics Center labs, this event aims to bring mutual awareness to the exciting research done by our peers in the photonics community and provides an opportunity to practice communicating the impact of your research to the broader community.

NES Optica Events

The New England Section (NES) of Optica hosts regional events, such as socials and talks in the Boston/Cambridge area. In the Fall ’25 semester, we will host two NES talks on campus in the Photonics Center. More details to come.
