BUPC Incubator Company Wins NREL Clean Energy Forum’s Best Venture Award

On October 21, 2010, Micron-gap Thermal Photo Voltaics (MTPV) Corporation won the Best Venture Award at the 23rd Industry Growth Forum. MTPV was founded by Robert DiMatteo in 1995 and is currently an incubator company in the BUPC Business Incubator. The MTPV team developed the Micron-gap Thermal Photo Voltaics semiconductor technology as a means of directly converting heat or sunlight to electricity.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Laboratory (NREL) hosts the Industry Growth Forum. Nearly 500 investors, entrepreneurs, scientists and policymakers attended the forum in Denver, Colorado. The three-day forum highlighted clean energy technology and business developments. Since the establishment of the forum series in 2003, companies presenting at the forum have raised more than $3.4 billion in capital funds.

Each of the thirty-four, competitively selected, companies presenting was competing for three cash prize awards sponsored by Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati. The cash prizes include $10,000 for Best Venture Award and $5,000 each for the two Outstanding Presentation Awards. In addition, NREL, along with Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati, provides the winners with in-kind commercialization support matching the cash award to help increase their chances of commercial success.
