Empowerment Exchange (formerly EDI Community Meetings)

An informal, lunch*-and-conversation gathering where we come together as a community to sit with questions that don't have easy answers.

The format is intentionally informal. We'll start in small groups, mostly to socialize and catch up. Then, we will introduce the idea we'd like to engage with, start with conversations in small groups, and then open into larger conversation. There's no formal program and no pressure to be an expert. Come as you are.

This session will focus on a topic that affects the work we do and the conversations we have with students and teachers: the First Amendment in college classrooms. What's the difference between free speech and academic freedom and does it matter? Does "viewpoint diversity" protect marginalized voices or does it uphold the status quo?

*Bring your own lunch, but we will bring light snacks.
