Faculty Research Fellow Min Ye Authors New Book on China’s Belt and Road Initiative
Min Ye, an Associate Professor in the Pardee School of Global Studies and a Faculty Research Fellow at the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, has published a new book titled The Belt Road and Beyond: State-Mobilized Globalization in China: 1998–2018 (Cambridge University Press 2020).
In the book, Prof. Ye explores the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and other initiatives launched by China’s leadership in the past 20 years, aimed at mobilizing state and market actors to expedite globalization. Drawing on interviews and case studies, she investigates the motivations and strategies behind China’s global economic expansion, and considers the implications of the country’s status as a global power on both China and the world.
The book is, in part, a result of Prof. Ye’s work as a Pardee Center Faculty Research Fellow from 2015-2018, where she led a project titled “China’s Silk Road Diplomacy: Studying and Shaping China’s Long-Term Economic Footprints in Asia and Beyond.” The project — which included fieldwork in China, annual events, and the development of a network of experts on China’s BRI — made up the first stage of Prof. Ye’s research for the book.
