Faculty Associate Muhammad Zaman Launches New Initiative on Forced Displacement

Muhammad H. Zaman, a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and a Pardee Center Faculty Associate, is the founder of a new university-wide initiative on forced displacement. The Initiative for Interdisciplinary Approaches to Forced Displacement (IIAFD) at Boston University will foster interdisciplinary collaborations among faculty, staff, and students in the emerging field of refugee studies. Through teaching, research, and service, IIAFD will provide an innovative platform to combat the crisis of forced displacement.

On September 26 and 27, Prof. Zaman will convene a two-day international conference to consider how universities can address the challenges of forced displacement. The conference, titled “The Role of the University in the Crisis of Forced Displacement: Ethics, Innovation, and Immersive Learning,” will feature plenary talks, panel discussions, workshops, and evening events highlighting the contributions of artists.
