Laurence Delina Authors Paper on Role of Multilateral Development Banks in Climate Finance

laurence delinaLaurence Delina, a post-doctoral associate at the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, recently published a paper in the journal International Environmental Agreements.

In the paper, Delina explores how and why the role of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) in climate finance is increasing by analyzing energy projects supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He examines trends in the quantity and monetary value of energy projects supported by the ADB from 2000 to 2014, finding that support for fossil fuel projects decreased while support for sustainable projects increased, reflecting the ADB’s evolving priorities and increasing involvement in the climate finance system. Delina suggests that this study provides evidence that climate change mitigation and poverty reduction goals can be complementary, and that MDBs can play a central role in achieving both.
