Pardee Director Delivers Keynote Speeches on Climate Change

Pardee Center Director Anthony Janetos addressed state and local officials and Boston University alumni regarding the impacts of climate change at two different events in late March.
Prof. Janetos joined the Foundation for a Greener Future as the keynote speaker at the 3rd Annual Massachusetts Water forum on March 24th, discussing “Climate Change Implications for Water and Coastal Resources” for state and local officials and water policy advocates. The event, held at the Boston Society of Architects Space, addressed issues of water within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It was co-sponsored by State Representative Chris Walsh, the Boston Society of Architects, the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, the MIT Water Club, and Green Schools.
Prof. Janetos was also the featured speaker at “Rising Tides: A Talk On Climate Change and Sea-Level Rise” for the Boston University Alumni Association in Boca Raton, Florida the following day, March 25th. Approximately 40 BU alumni from the Boca Raton area attended his talk, titled “Climate Change and Sea-Level Rise Impacts and Responses.”
A well-known expert on climate change and its impacts, Prof. Janetos served on the external federal advisory committee for the third U.S. National Climate Assessment, which was released in 2014. He was also a co-convening lead author on the mitigation chapter of that report. He has played a role in all three of the National Climate Assessments, serving in the Federal Advisory Committees for each, as a co-chair in the first assessment, and as a lead author on ecosystem impacts in the second. He has also led in the development of a national system of indicators for climate change impacts and responses on behalf of the Federal Advisory Committee. In addition, he served as a co-coordinating lead author for the Second Working Group chapter on regional contexts for the fifth report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Professor Janetos also served on the steering committee for the second update of the City of Boston’s Climate Action Plan, which was released in January 2015.
