Prof. McCann Interviewed about National Drought on Chicago Radio

The Pardee Director ad interim James McCann was invited to talk about the national drought on Vocalo.org 89.5 FM, in Chicago, on Tuesday July 24, 2012. Prof. McCann compared the drought to other regions in the world, and to other times of drought in American History.
“What happens is really a result of how humans are tilling the soil, how they are making their livelihoods and therefore are vulnerable to being pushed off the land by climatic change and by changes in the local economy.”
Prof. McCann also touched on climate change at large, and his own work with malaria control in Africa. The podcast starts with an interview with Illinois farmer Ken Kurtenbach. Prof. McCann can be heard starting at 12:30 into the podcast.
