Pardee Center Publishes Issues in Brief on the Indian Economy and Liberalization

Graduate FellowPost-doctoral Fellow Suranjana Nabar-Bhaduri is the author of the Frederick S. Pardee Center’s 23rd Issues in Brief, Free Trade and Inclusive Development: Lessons from the Indian Experience. In the piece, Dr. Nabar-Bhaduri uses the experience of India as a basis to argue that despite encouragement from the International Monetary Fund and World Bank to open up trade to stimulate the economy in developing countries, liberalization by itself is not a solution for sustained development and must be complemented by appropriate industrial and employment policies at the national level.
