Prof. Najam Speaks on Global Governance Reform at CIGI (Includes Video)
Prof. Adil Najam, Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future and Boston University Professor of International Relations and of Geography and Environment was one of the participants and speakers at the high-level meeting of experts, political leaders and diplomats on “The New Geometry of Global Summitry: The Future of the G20 (and the G8).” The meeting was organized by The Center for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and held on May 2-4, 2011 in Waterloo, Canada.
Prof. Najam’s presentation focussed on why development and global poverty issues should be placed at the center of the G20, especially since unlike G8 it includes countries like China, India, Mexico, Brazil and South Africa which bring new experiences, perspectives and approaches to these issues than advanced industrialized countries of the G8 whose development focus tends to be narrow and mostly about international assistance. Prof. Najam also spoke about issues related to climate change governance during the meeting. Some of the points he made at the meeting are captured in this video interview (above) prepared for and at the meeting.
The high-level conference brought together an array of some of the key experts and diplomats involved in G20 and related global governance issues, from around the world.
