Prof. Adil Najam, Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future and Boston University Professor of International Relations and Geography and Environment, was invited to participate in a global consultation on International Environmental Governance organized by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Geneva, Switzerland, on 8-9 November, 2010.

The two-day meeting brought together leading scholars and policy makers from all over the world to develop ideas on options for future International Environmental Governance (IEG), which has come under scrutiny in terms of effectiveness, coherence and impact. IEG encompasses both institutional architecture as well as the instruments under conventions, treaties and protocols and addressing issues ranging from ozone depletion, climate change, hazardous chemicals and waste, natural resources, biodiversity, fisheries and trade.

Prof. Najam’s own research has focused on issues related to global environmental governance and the Pardee Center has been focusing on these issues, including through the Pardee Center Task Force on Governance for a Green Economy, Pardee Center sponsored discussions at the United Nations in New York in 2009 and 2010, the publication of the Sustainable Development Insight series of policy briefs, and a number of activities at the Pardee Center including discussions related to accountability in global governance, climate change negotiations, and energy governance.
