Prof. Najam at Advisory Meeting for Forthcoming UN Report

UNEP-GEOProf. Adil Najam, Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future and Boston University Professor of International Relations and Geography and the Environment, participated in an advisory group meeting to develop a policy assessment framework to be used in the forthcoming Fifth Global Environmental Outlook Report (GEO-5) of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The meeting was held in Geneva, Switzerland, on October 10-11, 2010, and included the head of the GEO-5 process from UNEP and selected policy assessment experts from around the world, including Prof. Najam, who had been a lead author in the previous GEO Report (2008).

GEO-5 is expected to be released in 2012. Global Environment Outlook (GEO) is a global, consultative, participatory process that builds capacity for conducting global environmental assessments and for reporting on the state and trends of the environment, future outlooks and policy options. GEO is also a product that informs environmental decision-making. It aims to facilitate the interaction between science and policy. This meeting was called to develop a policy analysis and assessment methodology which will be used by chapter authors who produce the content for GEO-5.
