Prof. Adil Najam, Director of the Boston University Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, published two related op-ed’s on the choices before the United Nations Secretary General for the position of the new UN Climate Chief (Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change (UNFCCC)).

The two op-ed’s published in Express Tribune (Pakistan) and New Straits Times (Malaysia) were both based on the original article published by Prof. Adil Najam in the TripleCrisis blog.

The basic analysis from Prof. Najam is that the timing of this choice before the United Nations Secretary General is important because it will allow putting back the rudderless global climate negotiations back on track. In particular, it is important that the new leader of the UNFCCC be from the development community and someone who commands the respect of both the environmental and the developmental communities.
