The Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, Prof. Adil Najam, spoke in Reykjavik, Iceland, on Climate Change, Security and Human Development at the National Museum of Iceland at a special lecture organized by the Nordic House, the Iceland Ministry of Environment and the Institute for Sustainability Studies at the University of Iceland. The lecture was attended by academics, policy makers and the public. While in Iceland, Prof. Najam also spoke to students at University of Iceland on the forthcoming global climate negotiations to be held in December in Copenhagen, Denmark.

In his presentation, Prof. Najam argued that the key challenges of climate change adaptation are actually challenges of development and should be seen as such. He also argued for the need to take a human security approach to climate policy and to root it within the context of human and sustainable development. The lecture was followed by a lively discussion with the audience at the National Museum.
