Prof. Zaman named Pardee Center Faculty Fellow

zamanMuhammad Hamid Zaman, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Medicine from Boston University, was named as a Faculty Fellow of the Boston University Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future.

In October 2009, Prof. Zaman will be leading a research meeting at the Pardee Center on complexity of higher education in developing countries. This meeting will be part of a research project co-sponsored by the Pardee Center, theĀ US National Academies, and the Keck Foundation and led by Prof. Zaman along with Pardee Center Director Prof. Adil Najam and Boston University Provost, Prof. David Campbell.

Prof. Zaman is the principal investigator of the Laboratory for Molecular and Cellular Dynamics at Boston University. Prof. Zaman holds a Ph.D in Chemistry from the University of Chicago. His research focuses on the interface of cell biology, mechanics, systems biology and medicine. He is interested in understanding and decoupling the integrated chemical, biological and mechanical basis of tumor invasion that precedes metastasis using computational and experimental tools rooted in cell biology, chemistry, mechanics and imaging to ask how cells process external information and use it to develop specific responses in native like 3D environments.

The second main thrust of his research at the Laboratory for Molecular and Cellular Dynamics focuses on developing computational and experimental tools to improve the quality of life, education and the practice of medicine in the developing world. He partners with various partners around the globe to develop cheap, robust and easy to use solutions to develop improved diagnostics and tools for data analysis. Read more.
