Pardee Center Post-doctoral Fellow Dr. Miquel Munoz has been appointed to the Catalan Government Group of Experts on Climate Change. The group periodically assesses all climate change information relevant to Catalonia, and produces an in-depth assessment report, currently in its second cycle.

The group was created in 2000, bringing together researchers and practitioners from different disciplines whose works was related to one or more aspects of climate change in Catalonia, with the aim of compiling all the information and making it available in a comprehensive manner. In 2001, the group embarked in the elaboration of the First Assessment Report of Climate Change in Catalonia, sponsored by the Catalonia Government through the Council on Sustainable Development and the Environment Department, and with academic support through the academia-wide Institut d’Estudis Catalans. The assessment included experts in natural and social science. The first assessment was completed in 2003 and published in 2005.

The success of the collaboration leading to the first assessment resulted in the formal establishment of the Expert Group on Climate Change, which in 2008 was tasked with the elaboration of a second assessment report. Dr. Munoz will participate in the second assessment, including a chapter on international negotiations on climate change.
