Pardee Fellow Discusses Insurance at UN Climate Talks
Pablo Suarez, a visiting fellow at the Pardee Center, made a presentation on climate risk insurance and development during the meeting of the United Nations Framework Convention of Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Bonn. Speaking on behalf of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Dr. Suarez discussed how risk transfer instruments can help the most vulnerable sectors of the global population access the knowledge and resources needed for development and risk reduction. Some of these ideas were presented at a Pardee seminar on food security and microfinance.
The UNDP has asked Pablo Suarez to support the development of a new climate risk finance facility that would assist public authorities in implementing development and risk-reduction oriented insurance mechanisms at the local and regional levels.
