Prof. Adil Najam Delivers Hamilton Hall Lecture

Prof. Adil Najam, Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, was invited to deliver a lecture in the Hamilton Hall Lecture Series in Salem, MA.

Speaking on what was the 200th birthday celebration of Charles Darwin as well as Abraham Lincoln, Prof. Najam emphasized that both these men had the foresight to realize that historic long-term changes begin with small steps. Prof. Najam argued that similar foresight and a similar focus on the human future was required today to meet some of the great challenges of our times – including challenges of climate change, of human development and of human security. Prof. Najam’s lecture tied these three strands together and argued that we will have to meet all these challenges together, or may end up meeting none.

Prof. Adil Najam presented his Hamilton Lecture to an audience of 400 at the historic Hamilton Hall in Salem, MA. The hall was built in 1805 as an assembly hall from plans by Samuel McIntire, the renowned architect and wood carver of Salem, and was named in honor of Alexander Hamilton. The Lecture Series began in 1946 and is now in its 63rd year.
